Planning on brewing a Pliny The Elder clone using the recipe from the AHA. Calculated IBUs are 205.3. Actual IBUs is 90-95. So I have done some water calculations and planning on a 2.0 sulfate/chloride ratio according to brewersfriend.com. Currently my calculation has Calcium is at 107.8, chloride is at 61.8 and Sulfate at 132.9 after adding 7.5g of gypsum and 4g of Calcium Chloride. How does that sound? Anybody done calculations for a Pliny clone before? Am I little nervous about enhancing the bitterness of such a high IBU recipe, but want to have a nice dry beer at the end. Thoughts?

There’s actually more CaCl used in PTE than CaSo4. Equal amounts in the mash and slightly more CaCl than CaSo4 in the kettle.

I’d say 100ppm Ca is a good start.
