I am making my first attempt at watermelon wine on Monday. I have a decent amount of beer experience, but I've never done a wine. id love some feedback on my recipe.

One gallon batch:
take a large watermelon and puree the inside, run through a strainer to remove excess pulp.
add 1 1/2lbs sugar
add water till at 1 gallon.
add champagne yeast.
after fermentation stops, rack onto fresh watermelon and 1lb fresh basil in secondary. age 1 month then bottle.

anything I missed, or shouldn't do?

You are going to want to add acid blend and Pectic enzyme. Half a teaspoon of Pectic enzyme will do and it will ensure you get a clear wine free of Pectic haze at the end. The acid blend is more about flavor and it is necessary to get your wine around 0.35% acid if you have a acid test kit. Otherwise go by a recipe and maybe add ~3tsp acid blend.
