Hey guys,

I have some old Maris Otter and two-row from about 2 years ago. I tried making a batch of IPA and it tastes pretty bleh. I’m thinking the grain is just too old and not ideal for brewing, but I was wondering what you guys thought about using it for starters?

I was thinking of brewing a huge batch with it, and jar it in the pressure cooker to store for yeast starters, and that way I can just pop open a jar or 2 when it’s needed and not have to buy DME. I will be adding Fermaid K so I believe nutrient wise it should be fine, and taste doesn’t really matter.

Any reason I should reconsider this, or is this an accepted thing to do with old grain?

I made my first “all grain” starter a few days ago. 0 ounces was perfect for a 1.5 liter starter with brew in a bag stove top cooking making it pretty easy. I might never buy extract again.
