Made two one gallon batches of a melomel session mead did both the same day with the same ale yeast.
Hydrometer OG was 1.072 and at 5 days both were 0.995. But both look completely different. One of them has a large amount of trub and is clear....the trub looks different than any I've seen before. The second looks the same as it did day 4 (which the first one did as well) and has a traditional looking layer on bottom.
Please help if you know what is wrong with one or the other.

Hard to say from the details you've shared — too many unknowns.

But neither of those sediment layers looks worrisome to me. Let ’em ride.

(Hazarding a wild guess ... the one on the right looks paler and hazier ... maybe the yeast in that one just hasn't flocculated as much yet.)

Thanks, it's just weird that they both were done the same way and same day but look so different on day 5.
It's a session mead melomel 1 gal
1.5lb raw wild flower honey
16oz pomegranate juice
1lb blackberries
1 8oz black tea
4tbsp lemon juice
Distilled water
Berries were smashed in boiling water and strIaned
Yeast was a coopers ale yeast washed and replaced from a 48hr starter
Temperature of fermentation was 68 degrees
LD Carlson Nutrient and energizer added first 3 days and areated
Yeast worked so energetically on day one that I had blowout and installed blowout tubes.

It is odd that 2 identical batches should look so different. Do they smell OK?
BTW, beer and ale make trub. Mead, wine and cider make lees.
Lol ok I think I actually knew that.....but as I used an ale yeast I guess it would technically be Le'Trub.....sorry couldn't resist.
