brewed a "winter blonde" yesterday. tried to simulate a malt bill similar to a blonde bock (lower starting gravity), added some flaked oats and did some nice, late hopping on it. can't wait to drink this bad boy!

Today's lineup:
% gallons of amber/red ale by me.
10Gal of pils by my brewing buddy.
No snow today, but we had a bunch of cold rain. Oh well, at least we have 15 gallons to show for our efforts.

Tomorrow we brew our first ever kitchen sink IPA. 13 oz. of 13 kinds of old hops, from as recent as our last brew all the way to back-of-the-fridge "do I still have that?" age and from some French 1.1% thing that I forgot what I used it on to some Warrior that came in over 16% will go into an extract brew using the malt bill of Yooper's Stone Ruination clone. The calculator shows it as coming it at 155 IBU but of course it'll be a fraction of that because of the age of the hops. Just a little fun way to get rid of stuff that wouldn't otherwise be used.

Got distracted on Christmas Ale sparge and pulled close to 15 gal. Boiled 90 min to reduce, but ended up with 12 gal @ 1.055, so it's a little thin, but oh well. I hope the 6oz of hops don't knock this out of balance.

My first attempt at a stout smelled heavenly. The Stout's fermentation is ramping up big time this morning, the ale is starting, but does not have full krausen. Nice feeling to have 4 carboys full after a 9 hour brew day.

Sunday Morning Brewing! Five gallons of Amber Wheat at home in the middle of boil right now, then off to the homebrew club for a group session of 15 gallons of oatmeal stout.

I love making wheat beers but have not done an amber wheat yet. Would you be willing to share your recipe? My brew day got cancelled due to severe winds and cold temp below zero.

Here is the thread, though first time making it, so I have no idea how it will ultimately taste:

All of my family is back in Iowa, by the way (Sioux City and Des Moines); Perry and Mt. Pleasant for me a long time ago. I heard you guys are having blizzard conditions there!

2 Batches

Arrogant Bastard clone and a pretty basic porter (it's been years since I made a porter) Cooling right now. Also need to rack a black pale ale that's dry hopping, and rack 2 batches of wine. Shiraz and Trio Blanca from kits.

Days like today, I wish I had a garage to brew in, or an indoor electric setup. Its so cold and windy out, and still snowing! Can't wait until the day that I have a cozy brew room!

5 gallon batch of Dark Knight Sweet Stout for the January tasting/competition at BXBeer Depot

I did a sweet stout at the beginning of September that is only just starting to come into balance. January might be a little soon. Hopefully it's ready for you.

Rye IPA mashing now. Heavy rain and wind 49F. Luckily I have a garage!

The rain/wind is sick today, huh?

I brewed a Russian Imperial Stout yesterday, and continued to sparge another batch out of it for a second runnings batch.

Between getting a new refrigerator & rain the beer gods intervened and stopped the rain long enough this afternoon to do the boil outside. Brewed 5.25 gallons of a Columbus & Willamette IPA.

Just finished bottling up the other half of my 10g of Burly Brown - Moose Drool clone. One good thing about kegging as well as bottling, you can usually be patient(or lazy) and let a few weeks slip in between kegging the first half and bottling the 2nd, since I'm usually anxious to start drinking on it.

Used a diff yeast on the split batches, London ESB 1968 on the kegged, and WLP002 on the bottles. There is a noticable difference, and I'd have to say(before tasting the bottles carbonated) the 1968 seems more smooth(and more like Moose Drool), but I think I'm really going to like the WLP002 also.

Someone said the "S" word here so there's a chance we may get out of work tomorrow. This will probably totally jinx that from happening, but if it does, I'm brewing. Not sure what? I have a rediculous amount of hops in the freezer so I'm sure i could come up with something. Not that I need more beer, but it's not like I'd have anything better to do! Pray for snow!

Not this weekend, but I'll probably brew 2 batches while I'm on vacation next week.

Definitely thinking of trying a New Glarus Wisconsin (Belgian) "Red" clone to have it ready to drink on my birthday in late March. Since I'll be doing a 3 gallon batch I can splurge and buy some the jarred sour cherries so plentiful this time of year :)

Still want to brew an English nut brown ale too.
