Hi Everyone

Im Planing on brewing 2 beers next week
One Regular ESB an another one with RYE

How much rye you suggest to add to my grain bill to have a subtle but present rye flavor that will match my Phoenix / Golding hops additions ?

Im also planing on using some honey to have a sweet bite to it
When should i'll had the honey ?

Ill post my grain bill of my partial mash later on ...

Thanx for any inputs !

I like 20-30% rye in my pale ales, it's not so much that it's hard to lauter but enough to taste.
As for honey it will ferment out completely and leave no sweetness at all. It will thin the beer down with the extra alcohol. If you want a hint of honey taste look into honey malt. I've never used it but I hear that's what it's for.

this is a test grain bill
i don't want the Rye to be upfoward i want i nice layer of flavors

I guess .5 KG (1 lbs) might be not enought ... might boost to 1KG instead

Compromise and use 750 g for your first attempt, then use more or less next time. Rye doesn't really have a strong flavor so more is good except that it gets sticky and hard to sparge.

that's what i'll do ... and if i want that extra TANG ... i'll move towards 1kg

thanx for your input i'll keep you posted

Another question ... my buddy suggested me also to add rice hulls to help on the sticky issue
