I just started brewing and want to make an Irish red. This will be my fourth batch and second all grain. So far my recipe is as follows.
6 lbs maris otter
4oz chocolate
4oz 60L crystal
.25 citra at 60 min 12%
.5 oz cascade at 10 min 5.5 %
this will be a 4 gallon batch as i only have a 5 gallon pot. It is a tight fit but it works and i get to brew more often. Does this look right for an Irish red? any advice will be a great help. my efficiency was about 80% last batch.

I would say it is great! I just made something very similar and it turned out awesome. I used a secondary so I could free up my primary, and I sampled the hydrometer sample and it was good before I even bottled it.

I don't know if you did or not, but I would use Irish Moss in the boil..makes the beer pretty to look at, makes it seem more "red" somehow (other than "orange-red") Happy Homebrewing!

I do 4 gallon boils all the time because my stove doesn't put out enough heat to do a full wort boil. So I brew in a bag. Here's my Irish Red extract with grains recipe. Take what you like.

The Irish moss sounds Like a good idea. If you made an irish red that is simmilar to the one I'm planning I must be on the right track.
