I'm brewing a strong Belgian on Friday, and the yeast specified in the recipe was a liquid yeast. This is the first time I've ever brewed with liquid yeast. The guy at the home brew shop explained to me about mixing up a small amount of wort so that I can let the yeast start to reproduce a few days before brewing. I wanted to do that tonight, but I don't have a grinder to grind the grains in order to make wort. Will a coffee grinder suffice for such a little quantity? There is almost no way I will be able to get to the brew shop today or tomorrow to grind the malt.

You could use a little DME or even some malta goya to make a starter with.

But yes, you can use a coffee grinder to pulverize the grain with to make a starter.
Try to keep the grain from actually being pulverized though.

If you are only cracking (you really don't want to grind the grains) a small amount a wine bottle can be used as a rolling pin to crack the grains relatively easily.
