I've just pulled two pints off my first ever kegged beer (a big porter) and it's really sedimenty and looks a lot like chocolate milk. Is it normal that the first couple are like that or is there something more sinister going on? I thought I read somewhere that it's normal to pull a couple pints out before it clears but I can't find where I read it.

Thanks

if there was any suspended particles, they most likely fell to the bottom of the keg in the cold crash. I cut an inch off the out tube on the keg so it does not pick this sediment up.

So, yes the first few pints may have some sediment.

thanks John.

I just poured another & it's clear so, nothing to worry about, another lesson learned and another pint to drink!

cheers!

I'll tap the keg into a PET bottle until it runs clear, then put the Carbonator on the bottle, re-pressurize and put it in the fridge. Re-arranged some kegs yesterday and mucked up the Bent Rod Rye. Time to brew another batch, I think.
