first go at rum

Here is what im throwing together for this little project. i put about a gal of water and mixed in 12oz of molasses and added 1 packet of highly active yeast i will post whats happning as soon as i can,

QUESTION I DESPERATLY NEED AN ANSWER TO - Can i freeze distill rum or do i need to steam out the alcohol in a still?

2 hours in - its been around two hours since i put it in the dark and its foaming and smells like alcohol woot!

As this site is located in the US, home distillation is illegal and can't be discussed.
