Random question for y'all.

I'm thinking on going to a HERMS / RIMS down the road. Currently when doing AG, after mash, I collect the first runnings until the wort is clear (free of sediment, grain, etc) before I let it drain into my brew kettle. How is this process accomplished with a HERMS / RIMS? Do you use any type of filtration?

Thanks all!

With a RIMS/HERMS, the grain bed does a very good job at filtering out anything... no need to vorlauf as before.

With these systems you have to constantly recirculate the mash so the grain bed sets and serves the same purpose as if you vorlaufed like before. Its no different.
