Hi guys,

So here's the deal: I just brewed my first batch of beer over the weekend and it is now on day 4 of its fermentation. The air lock is not bubbling, but I peaked under the lid yesterday (only once), and saw that there is krausen floating on the surface of my beer. Thus, I'm assuming fermentation is actively taking place. My concern is that, upon sniffing the air lock, I noticed that the beer smells extremely sweet (but not like bananas, or any of the common off flavors/ aromas that I'm aware of). I'm just wondering what could cause this, and if it is normal for the beer to smell sweet at this point during primary.

Thanks!

EDIT: It smells a lot like carrot juice, come to think of it.

Fermenting wort can have some weird smells...mine usually smells like rotten eggs or sulfur so I would take your sweet smelling wort any day of the week and twice on Sunday...my advice let it ride
