I am in the process of converting an upright freezer into a fermentation/lagering chamber, using a temp controller etc.
Does the freezer need to be vented to let the CO2 from the fermenter escape? Does the fermentation process not risk building up too much pressure and blowing the freezer door open? Will simply opening the door daily be sufficient?

I imagine that any positive pressure that is built up inside the ferm chamber will silently release itself through the door seal. Unless you have that thing latched airtight, don't worry about it. Even if it is latched, opening it up once a day would be enough to vent pressure. That would be impressive to come home to a blown out freezer door.
