So... made this yesterday and it's got airlock activity today.

Question. Is this stuff supposed to smell terrible when fermenting? I like the smell of beer fermenting (most of the time), but this stuff is just plain offensive!!!! Seems hard to screw it up, but I am curious.
 
Yeah, I'm not the only one who will tell you this, but all you need to do is search "Rhino farts" on the forums. Happens all the time, and your Apfelwein/cider will still come out great. 'Nuff said. No worries.
 
Apples don't smell great during the first stage of fermentation. How long it lasts will depend on the yeast you used but it should start to subside within a few days.
 
This is good information. I bought my juice over the weekend and I'm off to buy yeast later this week.
