I just got some LaMotte total chlorine strips. It reads shades of green from .5 - 5 ppm.
It reads 3ppm at the tap, but through my old 10 carbon filter, it stays yellow. A brand new 1 micron filter, same result. Guess what happened with the distilled? No change.
No smell of chlorine either, except with the unfiltered tapwater.
My water plant test engineer told me they use 4 parts chlorine to 1 part ammonia to produce 3 - 4 ppm chloramine.
Is there enough chlorine left to worry about? If there were, Im guessing a ridiculously tiny amount of campden would work, say 50 mg in five gallons.
