Hey all. Yesterday I started my first brew with the help of Palmer's book and instructions from the brew kit I bought. From what I understand, what ends up in the fermenter is the cooled wort (roughly 1 1/2 gallons) and the 3 gallons of cold, clean water. I cleaned and sanitized everything beforehand, but when it came to the 3 gallons of water going into the carboy, I couldn't find a definite answer on if this had to be pre-boiled or if it could come straight from the tap.

its okay to use it straight from the tap. It will also help to cool your wort even more before you pitch your yeast.

If your tap water tastes good (not chemically, or minerally etc. ) Its okay to brew with.

I do spray starsan up the faucet just to sanitize that little screen but i am probably overly anal about sanitization.
