I renewed my AHA subscription and got the 1lb of Breiss Special Roast as a bonus.

I haven't used this grain before but it certainly looks delicious.

Anyone have any recipe suggestions? I was thinking about something light-ish as I have just brewed some dark beers lately.

Thanks in advance!!:mug:

Apologies if there's already a topic about this but I couldn't find it.

I really like special roast. Kinda in between melanoidin and darker crystal to me. I've used it in porters, ESBs, and amber ales

Special Roast to me is kind of somewhat like an Amber or Brown malt (somewhere in between the two), and like a darker, more intense version of Biscuit, Victory, or Aromatic. IIRC it needs to be mashed as it's still got starch, but doesn't have any enzymatic power so it so will require the addition of base malt. I like it in smallish quantities in my three house English Bitters (Ordinary, Best, and ESB, although it's not particularly traditional in those cases, and in my more traditional Bitters I leave it it out).

Would do well in any maltier American style ale as well (good for an Amber Ale or Brown Ale, I'd say).

So I'm planning on brewing on tripel this weekend with:

12lbs pilsner malt
3 lbs cane sugar

It wouldn't be a classic tripel perhaps but any ideas on how it would affect flavor if I dumped it in? Nice? Disgusting?

Just sayin...
