Hello everyone,

I am brewing my first AG stout, a style I love to drink. A real after work beer, a true sentimental beer for me.

Alas I have no roast barley on hand. So, here is what I put together. Will this be alright? Has anyone else made a good stout WITHOUT roast barley? Any constructive opinions would help. I have read through Ray Daniels book, and tried taking his suggestions for what they were worth.

Do you have any Chocolate malt on hand? You could use some of that. To me though, you gotta have the Roasted Barley.

The vitals you posted here are closer to a robust porter than any stout. However, you might consider making a sweet stout. That's about the only one that you may be able to swing without using roasted barley or malts.

Hmmm, well it looks pretty decisive. I pretty much need some roast barley for a stout. I guess I will need to bite the bullet and mail order some. I just love stout so much, and sweet stout is just not my thing. I like it dry, and hearty.
