So some background info.

My first ever homebrew batch was a clone of Newcastle Brown Ale. While it didn't taste exactly like NBA, it was amazing....tasted better imo as well as rave reviews from my friends.

Second batch is a clone of widmer hefeweizen. I'm drinking it right now. Its pretty darn good and I'm generally pleased with it.

My third batch is in primary and is a clone of Downtown Brown.

So my theme so far is wheats and browns. For my 4th batch I'm thinking a clone of McMenamins Ruby or something I found here called Blackberry Brown.

I just ordered my home brewery system last night after a few non home brews.

I was gonna try the NBA You mentioned as my first batch. What temp did you ferment at? I'm gonna have to figure out temp control as my house fluctuates in temp. Any suggestions to give the kit some more flavor? Or did it have more flavor than Newcastle?

Thanks!

Here's the recipe I used for my NBA clone (extract brew):

the 3 following grains steeped for 30 min @ 140-150
2oz. crystal malt
2oz. chocolate malt
1oz. black malt

bring to boil then remove from heat and add:

6lb. Light Dry Malt Extract

Bring to boil again. boil for 60 min.

1oz. fuggle at start of boil

1oz. golding with 10 min remaining of boil

Cool to room temp and add wyeast 1098 (slap pack) yeast

ferment at 65-72

I checked my primary and my temp was at 72 pretty consistant.

I kept it in primary for 10 days, secondary for 7 days, bottled conditioned for 2 weeks.
