I'm getting a crankandstien mill for fathers day. The gap is adjustable. What is the current thinking on what width to set the gap to? For good efficiency and lauterability

What is you gap set to?

I have my 3 roller Monster set to .045. I got 86% efficiency on my first batch.

.045! that's very wide. I'm not sure I'd get that high an efficiency with that coarse a crush.

I routinely get 70% efficiency with my friends mill and I'm sure his is set tighter than .045

It's actually the factory setting from Monster, he recommends starting with it and going from there.

I've heard most settings in the range of .035 to .045

I had my grain crushed by someone with .045, and my efficiency was horrible. The remaining grain I recrushed a bit with a rolling pin and got great efficiency.
