For those who have tasted Flying Dog Pale Ale how much Crystal malt do you think they use, and what color?

I just tasted my last pale ale and it is not as malty as I would like.

Here is the recipe

8# 2 row
2# vienna
1# carapils
1/2# crystal 10

Hey md134 - I asked the same question here once...

Anyway, I made the recipe almost exactly like the recipe on the flying dog wordpress blog only I didn't use any chocolate, I used only Cascade hops, and I used Safeale US-05 for yeast. It turned out really good and I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference.

Something like this... 9# 2 row, 1# Crystal 120, Cascades, US-05 nice, simple, and very tasty

Actually on examination... using that recipe makes a beer that is too red. I think if you go with that recipe and use 1# 80-90L you will be right on the money though.
