Just a quick question--

I am accumulating swingtop bottles for my first brew and I was wondering how often / when you guys replace the gaskets on these things?

What is your criteria for deciding the gaskets need to be replaced?

Thanks!

I don't use them anymore, but those swing-top gaskets last a long time. I would only replace one if it was visibly cracked or if I had a bottle that had no carbonation and I suspected it leaked.

If you can find them, the neoprene gaskets last almost forever. I think I paid $0.25 each. Well worth it.

The first brew will be northernbrewer's phat tyre extract kit... I am a huge fan of Fat Tire and it is not sold here in Kentucky as far as I can tell.

I already know what I want to do for the second batch-- Trappist Dubbel, probably my favorite beer :) Also quite expensive to buy.

Visible cracks. It's a good idea to pull the seal off and stretch it.
If any rubber is left on the bottle when you open it.
Visible indentation that does relax out in a few minutes.
