Sugar and Gravity

How much sugar per gallon does it take to raise gravity by any amount?

In other words. If I add one pound of sugar (sucrose) to one gallon; how many gravity points will that pound of sugar add to the OG?

I thought this would be easy to find, but I have been looking all over the internet and can't seem to find the answer. It is either not out there (which I doubt) or I cant figure out the proper search terms to give me my desired results (I'm a *******). LOL

Try that site. It has a hydrometer table which gives you the reading of the hydrometer with how many grams of sugar per litre. Some simple calculations should send you in the right direction! Hope it helps!

Based on some crude calculations from my Apfelwein (don't know the OG of juice prior to sugar addition) the chart seems a tad on the conservative side. But it a push in the right direction!

Does this sound about right to everyone?

1.669 ounces of sucrose / 1.919 dextrose will raise 1 gallon gravity by .010

He says 1 pound of sugar will raise gravity to 1.046 which sounds a little aggressive.

That means to get to .010 it would take 3.48 ounces of sucrose / 4 ounces of dextrose.
