First Sour - Is my plan sound?

So I want to make a sour because I just tell that 2016 Paulster will wish 2015 Paulster had started this, just as 2015 Paulster wishes 2014 Paulster had more foresight. Anyway, I'm new to this. Not brewing, just souring. So here's my plan, will this work? Brew 20L of beer. Whatever - it'll...

    Troubleshooting regulator

So I've got this used reg I'm trying to get going. It's connected to a brand new full 5# tank. When I turn it on, co2 just pours out of that little hole you see on the right side there. What gives? I took the reg apart but everything looks fine - no broken gaskets or anything.

Yeast Race - Can you pick the winner?

Long day. Brewed 3 batches, and have used 3 different yeasts. They are all 5.5 gallons, and they are all about the same OG. #1 - A Columbus/Cascade PA. OG of 1.052. Yeast used: Conan, harvested from Heady Topper Amount pitched: 1.5L starter in to 68F wort. #2 - A porter. This will...

    I just froze my starter!

So just about to pitch the yeast, and where did I pit that starter again? Oh yeah, I stuck it in the freezer for 20 minutes to try to clear it up a bit. Except I forgot it was there an now it's solid as a rock. Going to thaw it, then pitch it. We will see what happens!!

Female and male flowers on the same plants?

Sup y'all. So this morning I went out on the deck, and lo and behold those burrs are now turning in to big, juicy cones. I'm going to have a ton of Nuggets, and a good amount of Hallertauer, but there was a bit of a concerning growth on both plants. Here's a pic from each plant, with what I...

First timer: Do i do it?

I'm new to mead making an was thinking of giving it a go myself. I figured I'd make a small batch to start and go from there. I read the wiki or whatever but I still have questions. Figured you are all nice people so lll just come right out and ask. 1) what does mead taste like? I've never...

    Help me salvage a lager

You see, I had this house lager on tap that was bloody delicious. Brewed it in the winter using the cold room for lagering/fermenting. So in my infinite wisdom when this ran out about 6 weeks ago, I just brewed up another batch. Figured I'd be pushing the limits of the yeast with the basement...

Yet another lager fermented to hot - lost cause?

So - I brewed a lager over the fall/winter in the cold cellar. Turned out fantastic. It's the "friend favourite" when people come over it. Just ran out of it, so I need more. Brewed up a fresh batch and tossed in the yeast on the 27th and had it down in the basement/cold room at about...

Beer tastes too malty - what to do?

Long story short - tried to make an ESB, and it's now ready to bottle after being in primary for a month. Took a FG reading, it's been steady for 7+ days now so it's all good. But it just tastes too malty to me. Like, there's no real balance to it - it's just all malt taste in your face...

    My First Lager Starter

Brewing a Lager this weekend, and I'm going to get the yeast started tonight. I plan on brewing a standard 1.048 OG lager, but I have a couple questions: 1) Since this is a lager yeast, do I put my starter in a cool environment, or is the usual countertop setup fine? 2) Mr. Malty wants me...

Un-sticking a couple fermentations - what to do?

So the last 2 batches I got going, I decided to ferment at a nice cool temp. So I stuck 'em in the cold cellar with the door open. They've been hovering around 10-15*C for 10 days, and I just took a reading/sample. The IPA is supposed to get down to 1.015, but it's at 1.020. Still appears to...

Took a day off for a brew day

A buddy wants to learn how I make beer. So he's split on ingredients with me for 2 batches. Today we're going to make a batch of Bee Cave IPA, and a Black Pearl Porter. Thanks for the recipes, fellas. Always exciting when people seem interested enough in what you're doing to want to...

Need your help - cider experiment isn't working

So I made a batch of edwort's apfelwein, and that all turned out awesome and everything. So I figured I'd just do the same, but with local apple cider instead. What I did: -5 or so gallons of apple cider. It's pasteurized and unfiltered. -a bunch of brown sugar dissolved in a bit of water...

My plan - can it be this easy?

I have some of Edwort's apfelwein that's been in a carboy for a month. It's sitting on a yeast cake of montrachet yeast. I just bought a bunch of fresh pressed and flash-pasteurized cider (about 5.5 gallons) from a local farm (it's freakin' delicious). What I'm wondering is this - if I just...

WTB: NG Burner + Grain mill in CANADA

Hey if you're in Canada and have a used burner or grain mill you'd like to sell please let me know. I'd prefer a Natural Gas burner so I don't have to mess with propane, but open to anything really. Thanks!

Where to buy a beer stein in Canada?

I live in Canada, and would like to purchase a beer stein for some upcoming Oktoberfest fun. Anyone know a decent Canadian online retailer? I'm looking for a mediocre imitation, not those crazy $150+ ones.

New yeast and hops - should I take these out of the trunk?

Good afternoon y'all, So I just went over to the brew store at lunch and bought some yeast and some hops. They both came out of a fridge, and are now sitting outside in my trunk. Should I put these in the fridge at work, or are they okay sitting in the warm trunk until I get home? It's not...

    This is it!

Alright. Got my brewing kit, got my sanitizer, got my malt extract kits, got my motivation, and most importantly I've got my craft brew to drink while I do all this. Tomorrow morning marks the first endeavor of the Paulster Brewing Co. (name subject to change). Wish me luck! Although with...
