    Imperial Nut Brown Ale

I'm currently brewing a nut brown ale kit. From a previous brew I have left over 2lb of plain light spray malt extract. I'm basically just wanting to get rid of it. Will it's flavor profile screw up the nut brown ale if i just add it to this wort? I know it will bump up the alcohol some..

    Interesting Fermentation

I was sure to mix the wort thoroughly when I added the yeast. Is this a normal separation?

    Interesting Fermentation

Last night I cooked up a batch of Imperial Blonde. I went to check on fermentation just a bit ago and the airlock is bubbling just fine. What is interesting is that the beer is in 3 layers. I have it in a 6.5 Gallon Glass Carboy I can clearly see the bottom layer (trub) Then the beer...

    hotdog flavor???

This may be way out in left field but some people's taste buds are different. For example, I don't think Salsa is Salsa without Cilantro. But there is a percentage of the population that thinks Cilantro tastes like soap. You can google it! Before tossing it, maybe have several other...

    Moving to Secondary

So, 3 weeks and 3 days ago, I brewed an Imperial Stout. I had PLANNED to rack to my secondary after 3 weeks, and bottle after 4 weeks, but life got in the way. So it has been in my primary for 24 days. This weekend presents a convenient time for me to bottle. Mostly likely on Sunday. So...

    Filtering Wort

So even the hops put in at 0mins..have done their job and can be filtered out?

    Filtering Wort

Hello everyone. I am asking for a friend. He is doing an IPA with hops added at: 60mins 20mins 10mins 5mins 0mins He then cools the wort and then pours it into his primary (that has 3 gallons of clean water in it). He is wondering if he should be filtering out as much of that...

Misread (ok misunderstood) Recipe, what will I end up with?

My gut tells me to leave it alone. I am still a beginner and always worry about infection and adding stuff after fermentation just worries me. However, the idea of the hop tea is interesting to me. The fact is, I don't know what I am going to do, ha! @m00ps: Is the chance of infection...

Misread (ok misunderstood) Recipe, what will I end up with?

Ok so I have read a bit about the hop tea. Interesting idea. So if I am understanding it correctly, I make a hop tea out of the same hops (Warrior). I then grab a pre-measured amount of beer from the fermenter (ie 1 cup). Then I add, for example, a teaspoon of the hop tea. Tastes great, so...

Misread (ok misunderstood) Recipe, what will I end up with?

Yea I have already pitched the yeast and they are working away. What a bone-head mistake. I bet I still drink it :-) I could re-brand it as "Dan's Devilishly Sweet Stout" Subdivisions: Can you elaborate a bit on your idea? Would I add that while in the primary or? Thanks!

Misread (ok misunderstood) Recipe, what will I end up with?

Another one of my stupid mistakes. Granted, I have brewed 6 batches of beer and all have been fairly good to my ignorant palate. So yesterday I go for the gusto and brew an Imperial Stout. My grain bag must have weighed 15lbs when I took it out. Anywho, instead of putting the hops in for...

Live yeast removed from fridge too soon

So I removed my white labs yeast from the fridge about 3 hours ago, thinking I'd be ready to pitch by now. My wort is still cooling. What should I do with the yeast? Keep it out it put back in fridge? Thanks Danno

    Recipe Translation Needed

So when I wash with 2 gallons of hot wash, am I basically just rinsing the grains with hot water and the runoff water (that's what I will call it) just becomes part of the wort? Danno

    Recipe Translation Needed

I am not a complete beginner as I have brewed 6 or 7 times. However, it has been a while. I am wanting to try an Imperial Stout Recipe. This is the first time I don't have "step by step" instructions. Ok I know how to partial mash the grains in 2 gallons of water. Then it says to remove...

    Yeast Allergy?

Just to clarify. This does not happen with commercial brews (unless you count the day after). With my stout, it would happen an hour or so after drinking it and even in such small amounts as one or 2 bottles. It did not happen to anyone else that drank it. Lastly, I am NOT drinking 10 year...

    Yeast Allergy?

Hello again! I just recently started homebrewing again after about a 10 year hiatus. Back then the Internet didn't have nearly as much information but I have always wanted to ask...can a person have a yeast allergy? Here is what happened. I made two 5 gallon batches of beer (10 years...

Adding Cold Water to Wort...Big Mistake?

I want to thank everyone for all the advice! I have a lot to learn but this is fun, not fall asleep at the desk, learning :-) I am pretty confident that my water is fine. It tastes really good right out of the tap and the yearly water reports I get, show that the water is very safe as well...

Adding Cold Water to Wort...Big Mistake?

This is probably a stupid question but why is everything when brewing beer: sanitize, sanitize, sanitize, and just in case...sanitize again. But then at the end it is ok to add plain tap water?
