    Brewing Safety - CO2

I didnt see a safety forum going so if this is misplaced please let me know. I just read in my 8th graders homework that CO2 is odorless. Having had a face full of the gas as I bend over into my chest freezer where I ferment I can tell you that the stuff is down right offensive. It burns...

    Bottle conditioning darkened my beer

Does any one have any thoughts as to why my bottle conditioned belgian golden strong ale got several degrees darker than the stuff I kegged? Both are from the same exact batch. I did add more yeast to the unfermented beer in addition to the priming sugar. It tastes the same except for a...

Belgian tripel fermentation and sugar additions

So I'm going to brew my first belgian tripel and I have some questions if any one can help me out. I'm using Beer Smith and I've selected the "Temperature Mash, 1 Step, Light Body" which mashes at 150 for 75 min. I chose this temp because I want this beer to be fairly well attenuated down to...

    Mash temp and Thermometer issues

OK I'm getting pretty frustrated and could use some advice. I started out using the long metal probe dial thermometers and found that despite calibrating them they were too unreliable. Then I went to a glass, non mercury lab thermometer and I've been using that for a while believing it was...

    going to a rims system

I am about to loose my 10 gallon cooler in favor of a 30 gallon Blichmann and a march 809 pump and set up a rims system and I have some questions for you more experienced folks... How important is the flow rate on recirculating the wort? Should I recirculate constantly during the mash...

    going rims with Blichmann autosparge

So I want to go to a rims system where I have the MT on a propane burner and I circulate the wort using my March 809 pump. I've seen systems where the wort is pumped through a sparge device that sprinkles the wort over the grain bed and this looks good to me but I see that the blichmann auto...

conversion speed, multi rests, and dry beer

So I had a wheat beer win 2nd place in Malt Madness and the judges described it as dry. which I guess it is. But I do a multi step infusion with a protien rest on the wheat at 120 degrees for 20 minutes. Then a beta rest for at 145 for 20 and an alpha at 155 for 20. By buddy thinks that the...

    Anyone use honey?

I've been reading that you're supposed to dilute your pasteurized honey down to your OG before adding it at high krausen. problem is if I dilute it that much it will be too much volume in the primary and may well overflow. Any one know how critical the dilution is?

    mash time vs temp

Anyone know if a lower temp converts more quickly than a higher temp? I make a beer using 2 mashes. one at 145 and one at 158 But I don't know which one I should start frst or let rest the longest because I can only sparge one mash at a time. Thanks.
