Forgot one of my fermentables in the boil...

So I just brewed the AHS Belgian Strong Ale Extract + Specialty grains today. I missed where I was supposed to add 4.5 oz corn sugar to the beginning of the boil. I still managed to hit my target gravity with just the 8 lbs of DME, but I seem to remember the corn sugar dries it out...

Forgive me for I have sinned

I had a keg of.... commercial beer in my keezer for the first time. Granted, it was a local brew, Four Peaks Hop Knot IPA, but it still felt dirty. But all is well. I finished said offending keg and have replaced with my own IPA. I will not let a gap in the pipeline occur again. :D

    My Brew Years Resolution

So I started brewing last year in April. Have about 10 batches under my belt. I noticed that starting in late October I started spending WAY WAY WAY too much money on commercial beer. Take December for example. I spent more money in commercial beer than I did on my two car payments...

Edwort's Apfelwein Cure for Sore Throat

Throat hurt all day. Four pints of this stuff later and I can't feel anything. :ban::rockin::D Only side effect is it took me five minutes to type this correctly. No druck translation needed.

    Imperial Stout not carbing?!?!

So I bottled my RIP on August 15th and decided to wait a while before even trying one, fully expecting them to take a while to carb. Well, it's been almost three months, cracked one today and there are hardly ANY bubbles. If it hasn't carbed by this point, what are the odds that it won't...

    Specific Gravity Formula?

OK, so I just finished brewing and measured my OG at 1.064 when there was 5 gallons in the fermenter. Is there a way to determine what the OG would be if I were to add 1/3 gallon of water? I was shooting for an OG of 1.058... about how much water would I add to adjust to this from 1.064 at 5...

    Dumped my first batch...

Bell's Two hearted clone. Tasted amazing when I kegged it. Tasted effing awful when I tried to drink it. Really, really undrinkable. Let it sit for a month with no improvement and then needed the keg. So I dumped it, took apart the keg and cleaned and sanitized EVERYTHING twice...

    My First Mountain Biking Video

I remembered there was a thread on here about brewers who mtb, so I figured I would post this here... Filmed this video yesterday morning... This is one of the trails I ride to from my house. The downhill sections get speeds up to 30+ mph in some sections, which, with a wide angle lens look even...

    Edwart's Apfelwein

So... made this yesterday and it's got airlock activity today. Question. Is this stuff supposed to smell terrible when fermenting? I like the smell of beer fermenting (most of the time), but this stuff is just plain offensive!!!! Seems hard to screw it up, but I am curious.

    Metallic Tasting Foam

I have three kegs, and right now, two out of three of them have a strange metallicy taste in the foam. Just the foam, not the beer. What could cause this? Is my CO2 bad? Infection? Oxygenation? One is a hefeweizen, and the other is a Saison. The unaffected batch was a Pale Ale...

    Could this affect my FG?

So I just tested the gravity of my Two Hearted Clone while racking it to secondary for dry hopping... I was very surprised to see it at 1.021 currently. It's been going for two weeks at 62*, and was the most violent fermentation I have had to date (bubbled for a week!) I made a starter...

Russian Imperial Stout SWEET at bottling...

is this normal? I love Russian Imperial Stouts, and I know they can be pretty sweet, but this is downright syrupy. OG- 1.104 FG- 1.032 Used WYEAST 1728 Scottish Ale, which is supposed to attenuate around 69-73%, so I am around where I expected to be... but man it is super sweet...

    Prickly Pear Lambic

So, living in the desert and seeing all the prickly pear cactus fruits ripe for the harvesting, I have been thinking about trying a prickly pear lambic. Had anyone ever tried this before? Should I just use any base lambic recipe and then sub prickly pear fruit in the secondary for the...

    Most violent fermentation to date!!!!

Man, Bell's yeast is insane!!!!!! Two Hearted Clone is fermenting right now... pitched yeast that I collected from Bell's bottles and built a big starter with (stepped up 4 times to 1 liter) last night and it is REALLY going. I have the 5 gallons in a 7 gallon bucket. Never had kruasen hit...

Thumbs Up to Austin Homebrew Supply

So I requested a jack-o-lantern drinking a beer to be drawn on my box under "Special Shipping Instructions" in honor of the fact this is my first pumpkin ale. They are awesome, and now have my loyal business. :mug::mug::mug: The lines on the pumpkin actually go all the way around the...

Obnoxious REAL Football Trash Talking Thread

OK, this one is for real football only. The kind played on Saturday. Predictions? As a UF and OSU (Oklahoma State) alum... I am more confident for my Cowboys this year. I think UF's schedule (6 preseason top 25 teams) is going to give them a very long season. I am excited to see what...

    Rookie kegging mistake...

pulled the relief valve on one of my kegs last night to bring it down to serving pressure (I have 5 ft lines). No worries. Tonight I go to get a brew from the other tap... no psi at all. Looks at the gauges, 0. Apparently I twisted the relief valve last night on the one keg, leaving a...

Just pulled my first pint of homebrew from keezer...

This is officially the first beer I have made that I wowed myself with. It's my Hoppy Hound Pale Ale, the third batch of beer I brewed (now have 6 under my belt, which is getting tighter), and the first where I put the recipe together. Wow. Very good beer. I something about pulling a draft...

    Tapping a Pin or Firkin

I am interested in getting a Pin Cask, but I am not sure what all I would need to make it work. I understand you condition in the cask with priming sugar for carbonation, but what kind of system do you need to serve from it?
