    First pilsner...LHBS & I both screwed up

Never made a pilsner in my 12 years of brewing, but I'm almost positive that I received pale or amber LME instead of pilsner seeing as this current batch is more of a muddy ale color. Curious if this qualifies as some other form of dark lager/bock/prison hooch at this rate? (Higher temp due to...

Specialty IPA: Red IPA Stone Pataskala Red IPA Clone (extract w/ steeped grains)

Sipping my first glass after 3 1/2 weeks since brew day and holy shazbot, this is a beautiful brew! Carared provides ample sweetness & body while the combo of Amarillo & Cascade give heaps of bitterness to back up the Mosaic hops up front and makes you realize that, "hey, this is a Stone beer!"...

Storing primary next to water heater...safe??

Soooo...I just recently moved into a new place with my 2 year old kitty, and this kitty is ridiculously curious about my brew equipment. The only thing about my new place is that there is literally one spot that she can't get into, and that's a closet/storage room/water heater area where I...

    Switching out keg types/connections

So my first legit brew-question in the last year: I have a dual-tap kegerator with a ball-joint connection and a Corny keg connection (so I can run either type of keg). Up to this point, when it comes to cleaning the lines (which is a ridiculous amount of work), I've been wondering if there's...

    Hallo

Was I missed? Didn't think so. :/ Even if you're (more than likely) not interested, back issues have sidelined my brew line for the past year or so. Hoping to get back into it soon...gotta get my investment out of HBT as much as I can. Good to be back. :mug:

    Beer in CO2 line...

So I was doing some maintenance/cleaning on ye olden kegerator today. I swapped the lines on my dual-tap tower and I noticed that some beer had worked its way into my CO2 line. There was a slight amount of mold along the junction where the line connects to the distributor, so I cut above the...

    Beer "mixing" at the bar

Not sure what to think about this. I can understand that some folks may prefer to mix their brews (example: I enjoy a black & tan every so often...), but this bugs me for some reason that I just can't put my finger on. http://www.ksby.com/videoplayer/?video_id=22927&categories=581

I love my job (beer "trade" story)

So we had a customer come in to the bottle shop I work at tonight with a few hefty cases of 750's he wanted to sell. Obviously we can't do that (illegal in every sense of the word), but we had the guy come back after closing & my boss bought them for cash (for personal consumption, of course)...

    Sour/lambic connundrum

Let's get right down to it: I've grown tired of the typical IPA/PA/red/lager/stout crap. The bottle shop I work at just got a case of Brux by Sierra Nevada/Russian River. Now then: the most "sour" brew I've had would probably be a Framboise or something along that line, and I couldn't...

    Stone 16th Anniversary IPA

All I can say is: Well, perhaps a descriptive is warranted here... The sucker-punch of lemon might turn a lot of people off, but I noticed a lot more subtleties as I went along that deserve merit. Light ruby/copper on the pour with plenty of puffy, marshmallow-esque lacing (quite sticky)...

    RIP Jon Lord :(

One of the most recognizable keyboard players of the 70's...the fire in the sky will burn a little brighter tonight.

Crusty stuff forming around faucet valve

Title says it all. For the last few weeks, I've noticed that there have been crusty/gummy beer deposits that form around the base of the faucet valve on my Danby: So far, sanitizer and a toothbrush have worked OK, but it seems that there's an o-ring or something else going wrong inside...

    Greg Koch rules the roost

Got to meet/drink with The Greg a few weeks ago during American Craft Beer Week in SLO, CA. He gave a presentation at Cal Poly SLO for the Entrepreneurs Club on campus, and later went down to one of the local watering holes & gave this little gem (sorry for the crappy vid quality, but they keep...

    That feeling when...

Your keg kicks anywhere past 3/4 of the way up the glass. I swear my kegerator is possessed and just wants to laugh at me as I mop up the foamy mess.

    Weetabix Hefe....muahahaha

So I received a box of Weetabix from my brother as an Xmas gift (don't ask...he's weird like that). Just checked the ingredients & nutrition info. 100% fermentable. Recipe in the works. :D

    Late Christmas present SCOOOOOORE

Had to brag about this one: so my dad & step-mom moved into a new house about a year ago. Apparently, along with a few bottles of extremely well-aged wines, they found these bad boys and gifted them to me today! 1993 Rogue-XS Old Crustacean Barleywine (2 bottles) 1994 Sam Adams Triple Bock (3...

How long to purge after transferring?

Title says it all. First brew to be kegged is.......kegged. So far I've got it sitting at 12PSI (carbing for 2 weeks before tasting), and I've purged 5 or 6 times now, no more than 1/2 to 3/4 of a second each. Es bueno, or keep at it?
