    question about "ready time"

The instructions for Northern Brewer's kits say that all their recipes allow for two weeks in the primary, two weeks for bottling, with the remaining "ready time" being the amount of time the beer should stay in the secondary fermenter. Is that accurate? By that logic, the six month ready time...

    Low Original Gravity Problems

This happened to me today. I made the Northern Brewer's barleywine recipe. I was supposed to hit 1.082 for my OG, but the reading was 1.070. I don't know what I did wrong. Everything really seemed to go well and the temperatures were perfect. The boil was good, cooling was good, and...

Super Bowl (Brew) Day... whatcha brewing?

I'll be brewing the Northern Brewer barleywine extract kit Sunday morning, and I will be hosting a Super Bowl gathering for the game. I can't wait to see what kind of beer my beer geek friends bring over! :mug: I stocked up at the beer store yesterday. Seeing how my first batch is still...

Can I expect my final gravity to drop anymore?

I moved it to secondary fermentation last night and dry hopped. I got the same FG reading two days in a row. Primary fermentation lasted 12 days.

Can I expect my final gravity to drop anymore?

I brewed my first batch (DIPA) on Jan 18. The OG was 1.083. I took my first FG reading yesterday and it was 1.022. It doesn't look like there is too much more yeast activity going on in the fermenter. Can I expect the FG to get any lower, or is that pretty much it? Or, do I just need to...

why are kit instructions so horrible ?

I made sure to spend a lot of time studying the instructions, playing with the equipment, and asking questions before I actually got started brewing. The Northern Brewer instructions were decent but I do have a couple of beefs. First, the instructions show pictures of all the equipment but...

    noob from Connecticut

Greetings!! Just wanted to say hello before bombarding this place with questions. I am very new to homebrewing. My wife picked me up a starter kit from Northern Brewer for Christmas. I brewed my first batch the other day: a double IPA extract kit. It went mostly ok, though I made a...
