Greetings!! Just wanted to say hello before bombarding this place with questions. I am very new to homebrewing. My wife picked me up a starter kit from Northern Brewer for Christmas.

I brewed my first batch the other day: a double IPA extract kit. It went mostly ok, though I made a slight error with the malt boil: With 12 pounds of malt, I was supposed to boil nine pounds for 60 minutes and three pounds for 15 minutes. I ended up boiling 11 pounds for 60 minutes. Meh. Hope it doesn't mess up the beer too much.

Here are a few pics...

Anyway, thanks in advance for answering my questions. I almost feel guilty hammering my homebrewing friend with all my questions.

There's a lot of good folks out in the western part of Mass. I'm pretty sure there's a Conn. group in the groups section. Check out Crabs in the group section. Have a good one.

welcome, Like mentioned above, you'll be fine with the malt assuming it was Liquid Malt Extract (LME) or Dry Malt Extract (DME). The benefit to doing a later boil with some of or most of the extract is a lighter color in the end.
Just be aware of the search feature, check the stickies. Most beginner questions have been answered dozens of times.
