    Team building beer suggestions!

I'm going to host a team building event for 10 engineer colleagues. Some drink beer, some don't. One used to homebrew long ago. Another has done a few Mr Beer kits. I do all-grain, so most techniques are not a problem, but I prefer ales due to lack of lagering facilities. Selecting a beer...

    March Pump Bronze Replacement Head

Sounds like a smart move to me. I've wondered about the robustness of the pump head. I'm surprised we don't hear about broken heads more often. I've been thinking about getting a pump and putting it in a toolbox. Many of the setups I see have the head on the outside of the box, but I'd be...

    I love no sparge brewing...

I'm really liking this setup, Sacc. I've been debating my next move for a while and this has given me serious food for thought. I've got a 10 gal cooler MLT and a converted sanke pot that currently serves double duty HLT & boil kettle. I hate all the shuffling of buckets and pots up and...

    Pumpkin ale: pumpkin necessary?

I used Yuri's Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale in the Spice/Herb/Vegetable section of the Recipe database.

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

To follow up, my attempt at Thunderstruck seemed to go well. Regarding the temps, I added the pumpkin as it was still warm and it didn't bring down the water temp more than a few degrees. Note, that 'few' is not a precise number. I should have checked to see if it was still hot enough...

    Pumpkin ale: pumpkin necessary?

Now you tell me! ;) Fortunately, that was not what I was after. I tend to side with the crowd that feels a pumpkin beer should use some pumpkin somehow. IMO, if it just used the spices, it's just a holiday spiced beer. Whether or not I can taste a difference is immaterial, it was a fun...

    Pumpkin ale: pumpkin necessary?

Well, I was about 7 low, but I think the grain and tun was colder than I told Beersmith. I had left it out in the garage since Friday and it's been in the low 30s overnight, 50 during the day. I had to add another 3 qts of water to bring things up to temp. I added the pumpkin as it was still...

    Pumpkin ale: pumpkin necessary?

Did any of you who tried using real pumpkin in the mash have any issues hitting your temps due to the mass of the pumpkin? I'm using ~90oz of canned pumpkin with another 12# or so of grain in a 6 gallon batch. Brewsmith doesn't seem to adjust strike temp for the mass of the pumpkin...

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

Did any of you who tried the AG version make any temperature adjustments for the pumpkin in the mash? I'm afraid I will miss my temp due to the large, unaccounted for mass of pumpkin... Starter is bubbling away right now, I plan to brew this later today and this little tidbit hit me while...

    The Bottle of the Future?

Naturally the article breezes right by this drawback. If it IS sealed like a bottle or can would be, why is refrigeration required? :drunk:

    Hi from Bartlett, Illinois U.S.

:mug: Welcome back, neighbor! I had a similar situation, kids & some other junk took priority. But life is too short for 'other junk' all the time...

thinking about doing a late addition extract boil

Do the math on the kit and you might find that the late extract addition may actually help you hit the IBU target. I recently did a BB porter kit, full boil. When I did the math to check what hopping adjustments I'd have to make to compensate for the full boil, I found that if I followed the...

    My brewery controller: iBrew

The spark source is also the sensor. It uses a technique called flame rectification. The flame is actually conductive, but acts like a diode. With a small alternating current placed across the 'circuit', you can sense when the flame makes the connection. I had a boiler converted to spark...

    Blowoff setup for better bottle

Blender, are the pipe sections and fittings glued? How do you clean it? Soak with oxyclean? I like the concept, but I'd be afraid of not being able to get a brush through it. Even the 1.25 OD hose I used 1 time didn't seem that clean after a soak with oxyclean. I'd really like a proper brush.

Hello from the western suburbs of Chicago

Thanks, folks. I have been working through How to Brew, Palmer is quite thorough! I've been concentrating on the hop utilization section since I've been full-boiling kits designed for partial boil without adjustments. I never realized the hopping might be affected by a full boil! Midwest...

Hello from the western suburbs of Chicago

Hello from good ol' Bartlett, Illinois. It's a happening place... I've been lurking here a few weeks, as I am just getting re-acquainted with the home brew world. I started brewing 11 or so years ago, but more school, kids, moving, and home improvement caused a real dry spell for the past 5...
