    Additives

When is the ideal time to add ground coffee to my Porter? Primary or secondary? How much coffee should I add to a 5 gallon batch?

    I've never seen this before

This is an AHS Creamy Smoked Amber that was in primary for 10 days and secondary for 22 days. I checked on it today and this is what I saw. It looked healthy going into the carboy, and tasted normal. While in the secondary, I kept it at 63-66 degrees for 18 days, and it's been at 56-60...

    Boil Pot question

What advantages would a thick walled aluminum pot have over a thin walled pot? By thick I mean 3/16"-almost 1/4". The thin walled pot is an eighth or less.

    Here's one for you...

When I went to put a couple of my Pale Ales in the fridge, I noticed how clear the beer looked-even through the brown bottles. After the had chilled for a day or so, they clouded up. What gives? PS, they still taste great

    Boiling?

I know this has been asked before, but I need to ask...this is the first brew I'm doing indoors on my gas range (it's too cold outside to brew), and my wort just won't boil. It's damn close, but not a rolling boil. I don't want to cover the pot, so will I be ok without a raging boil?

    Atomic Yeast!

I made a 2 quart starter with 6oz of DME on Saturday for my WL051 to be used to ferment an American IPA, OG 1.060. It began fermenting overnight, and by 9 am Sunday, it was raging. It is now 1 pm on Monday, and it is showing no signs of slowing down! I was going to brew tonight, but now I...

    Storing bottled beer

I know to keep my bottled beers at 70 degrees or so to carb them up, but for how long should they be kept at 70? It seems like I should move them to a cooler location (60 F) after about three weeks or so. Any thoughts?

    Yeast starter

Should I pour off the half gallon or so of wort from my yeast starter before pitching it, or just pitch the whole starter?

    Using carboy for Primary

I am planning on using one of my 5 gallon carboys to ferment a California Common in. My question is, what's the best way to pitch the yeast? It's a dry yeast Saflager 1023 that will be rehydrated. I can't easily stir the wort to aerate it like I do in my fermenting bucket.

    Wort boiler?

I know a lot of people on here use a turkey fryer to boil wort, but check this out: Propane Burner w/windscreen SP-10 [SP-10] - $47.50 : Cajun Wholesale It is a high-pressure burner with a windscreen. It produces a whopping 185K BTU, while a turkey fryer maxes out at 50K BTU. I think I'm...

    A Yeast question

I have a True Brew California Common extract kit I was thinking of brewing today. They yeast that was in the kit is a Saflager S-23. I looked on the website, and all I could find out was that this is definately a lager yeast. Should I still use it in the California, or I could wait till...

    Dogs and Hops

I know that hops can cause "malignant hypothermia" in dogs and can likely result in death. I'm wondering if brewed, "drinkable" beer poses any threat to my dog. We like to let her have the "dregs" of our beer bottles.

    I'm in love...

I just wanted to profess my undying devotion to "The best beer ever brewed in America"...Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. This is my all-time favorite "commercial" brew.

    Beersmith Software

Does anyone know if Beersmith is iMac-compatible?

    Lme->dme

Where can I find out how to convert amounts of LME to DME? For example, how much DME equals 7 ponds of LME?

    Rehash...

Sorry if I am covering old ground here, but what is the consensus regarding partially covering the pot during boil? I tend to leave mine partially covered, otherwise I lose a rolling boil. Also, for you scientific types out there, would I lose any more (or less) volume of my boil if I were...

    Imperial PA

I am fixing to brew an Imperial Pale Ale with an OG of 1.075. I will be using WLP001 yeast and I will make a 1 liter starter for it. Is it recommended that I either A) double pitch two vials (even though I am making a starter), or B) re-pitch some dry yeast. If I re-pitch, when is the correct...

    Some tasty brews...

I just did a taste test between Harpoon Leviathan IPA and Stone Ruination IPA. Both are ridiculously delicious and have astronomical IBU ratings (122 and 120, respectively). Both are also really expensive (the Stone was $15.29 for a 4-pack). The taste test was really close, but my wife and I...

    I'm a huge dope

Sorry if this is an annoying thread, but I'm dying to know what "RDWHAHB" means, along with some of the other abbreviations. Thanks for your patience.
