    Metallic/medicinal taste in Red ale

Hello all! I brewed a Red Ale a few weeks ago. It has been in the primary for 3 weeks until tonight when I kegged it. It has a medicinal or metallic taste (from reading sounds phenolic). I am a freak when it comes to cleaning and sanitizing, however on this batch when I almost had the bucket...

    WLP007 Slow Fermentation

Hello folks, I brewed an amber ale 12 days ago (1.048 OG). Pitched WLP007. Just checked the SG and got a reading of 1.018. Yeast pitched at ~68° and beer has been fermenting in temp controlled chamber at 68°. Still minimal activity in the airlock. Everything I have read that strain eats up...

    Specific gravity help...

Brewed Black IPA on 9/21. OG=1.075. Dry hopped and moved to secondary on 9/30. Gravity reading of 1.015 on 9/30. Airlock picked up a bit after transfer to secondary. Continued fermentation till 10/6 (no activity in airlock). Did not take a gravity reading. Cold crashed from 10/6 to 10/12...

    Fermentation temp issue.

I am brewing a 4 gallon double black ipa. Got a new stand up freezer and inkbird for fermentation chamber. Ran into an issue last night. Woke up and temp of wort was low 60s. Still had some co2 release from blow off. Moved temp probe from 750 ml wine bottle to a 1 gal glass carboy and placed...

    Double Imperial Black IPA help..

Going to do a 3 gallon batch of a Black DIPA. Posted ingredients below, however this is for a 5 gallon batch. The recipe states beware of wort loss due to all the hops. My question is do you think I should calculate grain bill for 4 gallons due to wort loss and efficiency or do you think 3...

    First Recipe from scratch(ish)

I decided Sunday afternoon at the last minute I would brew Monday. Got to the brew store about 20 minutes before they closed. Had a recipe I found online, however the homebrew store was wiped. This resulting in me piecing together most of my own ingredients. Take a look at this recipe and...

    6 Gal recipe??

I am see recipes for a lot of 6 gallon batches out there. I have a set up where I am filling 5 gallon corny kegs (like most I imagine). What's up with the 6 gallon batches? Folks bottling a gallon? This doesn't have anything to do with pre-boil volume does it? Do most typically alter the 6...

    Recipe sites

I'm not trying to diminish the recipes on this forum, but does anybody have any good sites they like to look for recipes on? I use pinterest a lot to look at recipes but about 90% of the all grain recipes on there were from crafted pours. Seems like that site is broken..bummed.. I liked it a...

First year Cascades. Not much nose

I planted 2 Cascade rhizomes in early march this year in a 3'x3'x18" planter box (I live in Arkansas). One survived and is doing well, one was decimated by black ants. I am getting some good cones that are ready and have the pretty lupulin, however the hops dont have much smell or nose to...

Golden Ale Recipe. Where'd I go wrong??

Used recipe as follows to brew a Golden Ale a few weeks ago. Just finished keg carbonating and it's not at all what I had imagined. I'm not getting any sweet malty flavors or creamy mouthfeel. It's not terrible, just very crisp and sudden... No smooth edges. Definitely not a sanitation issue...

Brewed 4 gallon batch with 5 gallon recipe. Add yeast?

I brewed two batches (all grain) last Saturday. One was an English Brown Ale and the other a hopped Pale Ale. I just figured out that my volume measurements were off on my measuring stick in correlation to my brew kettle. I only ended up with 4 gallons on both with 5 gallons recipes. Will...
