What did I cook this weekend.....

30lbs of pork butt for a family gathering on Saturday! Got it to 200 degrees and it just pulled itself! Was amazing with the homemade mac n cheese, baked beans, cole slaw, and corn bread!

Help with my efficiencies please? Notes included

I brewed the famous Centennial Blonde recipe yesterday. It didnt go well, had several major screw ups but the data ended up better. Conversion eff- 95.24%- 90 minute mash- I supposed this is going to become SOP with my brew shops crush, until I decide to crush my own. Mash eff- 75.5%...

Help with my efficiencies please? Notes included

    Make sure I am right here. Still not sure I achevied the results I am looking for. 1. 14lbs of grain * 1.038- 1 = 532 pts 2. 532 / 5 gallons = 106.4 / 1000 = .1064 = 1.1064 ( is this correct?) 3. 1.1064 = 24.82 plato 4. 1.106 x 8.329 lbs/gal * 5 gallons= 46.076 lbs of wort 5. 46.076 *...

Here is a screen shot of beersmith from the fermentation tab. I checked all my volumes and everything looks good. Not sure why my pre boil gravity reading was so different. It says my measured efficiency was 66.6%. Not sure where I got that last number. Of course you were spot on about the...

Fantastic synopsis! Makes perfect sense. Thank you so much for your time and help with understanding this. Next brew day is Saturday. I will post results based on your teachings following my day. Thanks again!

Help with my efficiencies please? Notes included

Good night! Thanks! I need to go lay down after reading that! My pre boil volume was 6.75, by the way. So with a conversion efficiency of 84.5%, obviously not where we wanted it to be, but where does your average homebrewer end up at on conversion efficiency? So, now we look at grind...

Help with my efficiencies please? Notes included

Ok, I tried to apply this new found data to my brew day on Saturday and I am more confused now than before. My potential for all the grain was 1.036. My first runnings were 1.082, my pre boil gravity way 1.050, and my OG was 1.070. Here is my recipe from beersmith. Where should have my first...

This has been great! I'm excited about checking this out. My efficiency is terrible and I'm looking forward to attempting to tweak it a little! Thanks man!

That make sense. What kind of % do you normally see on your first runnings? I'm assuming if I am seeing poor numbers from my conversion, first step would be to check my crush, then mash temp? Thanks!

These efficiency discussions always just blow my mind! Within my first year of brewing so help me out here…..I punched his recipe into beermith, where do I find the first runnings gravity? I have never measured my first runnings. I think im going to now! Thanks for this insight!

    Cheers to Sunday morning Brewers!!

Man, it has been a long time since I had a Sunday brew day, or any brew day. It sure is a lot harder making time to brew in the summer than it is the winter! Just too much going on when it's nice out! I found a Camp Chef burner at Cabellas yesterday on clearance for half off! Finally got the...

How much do you brew ?

I started brewing last August. Into the new hobby and headed into fall I was brewing every weekend. I progressed from extract to all grain through the winter and maintained that pace. Now that it's spring/summer I have found it is a lot harder to brew on the weekend because there is so much...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Man, I've never had a beer change so much during bottle condition. Gravity sample, tasted like white wine. Gross! 1 week in the bottle- yeasty and weird. 3 weeks- uhhhh, fantastic!! Ready to brew it again!

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I just bottled this a couple days ago. Was the cloudiest beer I have ever brewed. I didn't smell a whole lot of the hops but that may be normal as there really isn't a lot. The taste was very white wine ish. Hopefully a few weeks in the bottle will make me forget about the above.
