Blichmann's New Entrant into Glycol Wars

Has anyone seen one of these? I am in the market for a glycol chiller, but I’m on the fence between this and the BrewBuilt, but I haven’t seen any reviews or heard any feedback on any forums.

Is a 14G Conical Fermenter worth it?

I just recently got back into brewing, and my first purchase was the SS Brewtech BME 14 gallon chronical. I had to pay $115 in shipping because I live in Hawaii, and before my add ons, it was $935. If you live on the mainland you should get free shipping. This includes a temperature controller...

    Infection/Brew Bucket Question

I brewed a 10 gal Centennial Blonde batch (ended up with 8.5) that I split into two different buckets, 5 gal and 3.5 gal batches. I kegged the 5 gal batch first, and it was great. Two weeks later I kegged the 3.5 gal batch, and it was sour. Luckily it was a good sour, basically has a green apple...

    Hisense 7.2 chest freezer hinge

I bought this exact freezer for my keezer build, just unscrew the hinges while the lid is closed. I used the same lid and used the traditional wood collar built with 2x8s, using the same hinges. So far so good, and I am able to fit 4 corny kegs, although I’m using only 3 taps. I’ve always...

    Cold Crashing Nightmare!

I also forgot to mention I’m paying $1.80-$1.90 for base malts and $3.00 for specialty grains.

    Cold Crashing Nightmare!

This happened within three hours of cold crashing. I’m still pretty bummed out, as sad as it sounds, this is all I’ve been looking forward to for the last two and a half weeks. I have another batch fermenting now that will probably be done later this week. It’s a bitter pill to swallow as I’m...

    Cold Crashing Nightmare!

I just recently got back into brewing after a 4 year lapse. Today I was about to rack my second batch, a pale ale that I was dry hopping and wanted to give cold crashing a try for the first time to settle the hop pellets. The cold crash definitely helped settle the hop pellets, but today I...

    Wort Chilling Question

Thanks for the advice, immersion chilling is what I’m used to. As for the size, it’s not as big as it sounds, but I’m not sure about the displacement. I’ll have to check before I actually use it. Thanks again.

    Wort Chilling Question

I have acquired a stainless coil, I’m guessing 110’ that I planned on using as a wort chiller. Would I be better off using it as an immersion chiller or running my wort through the coil itself in a cooler with ice/water like a jockey box?

    What are you drinking now?

Back in the game after a four year hiatus due to multiple reasons, and my first post back was a butt post. Just had my first Big Swell IPA in a while and I was very satisfied. Thanks for having me back!

    Fermentation chamber probe thoughts

I tape then probe to the carboy covering it with a sock to try and get as close to the carboy temp as possible, works pretty well.

Rogue Dead Guy - Which Yeast?

I used good ol' US-05, brewed at 60-62 for 2 weeks (sorry, not a gravity guy), and turned out delightful! Just popped a keg of this tonight, brewing another 5 gal tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

How close is your "local" home brew shop?

About a 2.5 hr round trip. I try to order stuff online, but everyone uses UPS or Fedex these days, and their shipping rates to Hawaii are ridiculous. I can get an all grain recipe kit on Northern Brewer for $20, but shipping it here is an extra $34. Sucks when the LHBS charges $1.70 for 2-row...

Can I reuse store bought bottles?

An oxyclean soak overnight and a blast with a high pressure hose nozzle usually works great for me. I also have a bottle brush just in case. Labels come off easy and with one pass of a scrubber, so does the glue. I prefer 22s or 24s because it requires half the cleaning, and I also hardly ever...

    All-Grain Costs?!?!?!

The extra $0.30-$0.75 per pound of grain is a small price to pay for living in paradise. It use to be cheaper to buy grain online, but with shipping prices going through the roof, that has changed. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew
