Counterflow Wort Chiller Build (and use)

That's what I would do. This time wrap it around a korney keg or something and it won't pinch.

    Mason jars a plus?

Those would be great to share beer, just don't bottle condition in a growler. They aren't rated for the pressure.

American IPA My 2-time gold winning American IPA

I had this kegged in time for the Super Bowl and it was a big hit (as were my Seahawks!!!). Really delicious! I think this has made a slot on my rotation for sure. Thanks a lot for the recipe.

Easy Stove-Top Pasteurizing - With Pics

I think there are previous posts where plastic bottles have melted or deformed. I wouldn't use plastic. Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Home Brew mobile app

Easy Stove-Top Pasteurizing - With Pics

I did this 3 days ago and it seems to have worked great. Thanks for this wright up and all the additional feedback. I ended up doing this in my 60 liter brew kettle with the crab pot insert. The CP insert was raised off the bottom of the kettle by about 3" due to the ball valve and I also had a...

    Cider: back sweetening / aging

Doesn't this cut your ABV in half? I suppose if you originally make a strong cider or apple wine this would work ok but if you make a 5-6% cider to begin with I don't see the benefit.

    Adding Vanilla and Cinnamon

I have a cinnamon clove cider fermenting right now and this is the way I did it. I broke up 3 cinnamon sticks into small chunks and then brought 2 quarts of apple juice to a boil. Cut the heat, add the cinnamon chunks and 5 cloves, let steep for a half hour, strain then add to the bulk of the...

American IPA My 2-time gold winning American IPA

Brewed this yesterday as well! It did smell so delicious, especially when you add the first hop additions! Can't wait to try the finished product in a month. Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Home Brew mobile app

    90 cs 60 min. boild

I actually do both depending on what style I'm making. Beersmith makes it really easy in the profiles to switch back and forth once you get the different profiles setup. Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Home Brew mobile app

    90 cs 60 min. boild

A 90 min boil is good for hoppier beers, boiling the hops longer gets more out of them. But if you do other styles at 60 mins that means you have to adjust you volume calculations. If you just do 90 all the time you don't have to adjust anything. Your end volume is the same either way, there's...

    Adding priming sugar

It will, most likely, be OK. Just make sure you get it stirred up nice and good. Stir gently though, you don't want to splash and introduce oxygen into it. If it doesn't mix well there's a chance that some bottles will have more or less sugar and result in bottle bombs or under carbed. Just...

Aging in bottles vs. aging in secondary

Great question. I have been wondering the same thing but I didn't ask before I did it. I have been bulk again a barley wine for 6 months. I transferred it to a secondary in July and added CO2 to rid the vessel of oxygen. It seems to have done the trick. I just tested it last week and couldn't...

    New brewery

I'm trying to figure out what's going on there. You have a roof on and have have the forks of this lift in the entry gable of the structure? I don't get it. Please explain!

    Bottleing

Don't do it. They are not rated for that kind of pressure. I've never done it but everything I've read about it says they are not for bottle conditioning.

    Sanitizing bottles...

I do both so I know how awesome and easy it is to keg. Some batches I just like to have bottled. As long as my two taps are flowing oh plenty!

    Sanitizing bottles...

    That cheating! ;-)

    Sanitizing bottles...

This is what I do too. I store the clean dry bottles upside down in their cases. Come bottling time, sanitize, fill and cap.

Counterflow Wort Chiller Build (and use)

I'm not sure offhand what the thickness is but I'll measure it when I get home later. I have the Bayou Classic 60 qt pot as listed in this Amazon listing. I don't see the thickness of the wall listed in the description though. Bayou Classic 60qt Pot
