    Cheap Coffee Grinder

Ground coffee should be used within 15 minutes of grinding. I would recommend a Porlex manual ceramic burr grinder. I use it for Aero Press, Kalita, French Press and even stove top espresso.

    Simplest Recipe?

My best was my simplest. Similar to Jako's recipe above but add a cup of chopped raisins... I also used brown sugar and Saflager yeast, as I was able to maintain temp at 12-15C. Nottingham would be good also. Nothing else added, once bottled from the carboy, I don't recall even adding priming...

    Aging cider - Time limitations?

I had a simple recipe of 23L pear juice, cup of chopped raisins and 2 kilos of brown sugar. I had racked it and then set is aside, totally forgetting about it for a couple of years... yep years... it was in my Australian garage and temp fluctuations would be ridiculous as in 50C + in summer and...

Recipe help, help me choose yeast and recipe!

My best cider yet was basically the apfelwine recipe. I used S-23 yeast and fermented at 12 degrees celsius for as long as you can handle waiting... I left it a year but not totally on purpose... 24L of store bought juice 1.25 kg dextrose 1 cup chopped raisins 1060 to 1008, giving me about 6.6%...

    Cider with wood chips

My batches were only 1 gallon. I likened the oak flavour to Westons as I mentioned before. I don't oak every cider and I do like the flavour but not overly strong like an oaked red wine is.

    Cider with wood chips

I have previously oaked at 1 oz per gallon for the three weeks prior to bottling with good results. I tried natural French Oak and toasted French Oak with the natural imparting more oak flavour - and which I preferred, like a Henry Westons Vintage. To sanitize, I boiled them in apple juice...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

So a year ago, June 2013, I set a 6 gallon batch of this down except I used Saflager S-23 yeast and fermented at about 12 degrees celsius (53-54 F) in a modified freezer... I bottled it still from primary late June 2014... Wow... Absolutely delicious... The lager yeast only took it down to...

    Cider press

I have a pdf file of scanned old plans (circa 1938 probably originally earlier!!!) I plan on eventually building this - if for nothing than the aesthetics of it. I do plan on using it for pressing apples if I ever manage to build it. Sorry, no figures on yield... The pdf is too large to...

Thanks GF, will see if I can source something similar here.

    Apple Scratter Drum

Its taken me 12 months to get to the drum... A long way off completion yet! Scored a small wood lathe (which the drum is still on) for $50 which kick started my interest in building it again... Have drawings of old plans for an old style press which will follow. I'll get some pics up if the...

    Apple Scratter Drum

I'm making a scratter and want to know - do I treat the drum (or any wood that will come into contact with the chipped apples) with anything such as a vegetable oil or food grade lacquer? Cheers!

    Lagering cider?

I half forgot about my brew! Well its been in the back of my mind but haven't made the time to bottle... Its been in cold ferment for 9 months now... I'll get to it soon - maybe... Only just managed to bottle a 1 gallon brew I started in September...
