Help Converting Extract to All Grain

There are a few things to consider. First, is the DME light/amber/dark? Second, what temp were you steeping at? Third, what efficiency do you hit with your AG setup? Yes, you will get more fermentable sugars out of the grains, so you could always dial them down a bit. With that said, the...

    Second attempt at IPA

Campden tablets and adjust your water with the necessary Epsom Salt for better hop characteristics. Get your latest water quality test / contents from your water provider and use the adjustments accordingly for an IPA.

    Build a Tripel

I would go with 12lbs Light DME and about 3 lbs of Amber Candi Sugar. I used a combination of Wyeast 3787 (Trappist High Gravity) and Wyeast 1762 (Belgian Abbey II). If you want to really go over the top, you can cook down your own Candi Sugar for a fraction of the cost. There are many posts...

    Upgrading a DIY immersion chiller

I started off with a homemade 25' immersion chiller that chilled within 15 minutes with the normally cool tap water we have around here. Then I upgraded it to a homemade counterflow that allowed me to place it wherever I wanted and dropped it to 12 minute-ish levels. I finally made the jump and...

    Consistently low efficiency

Good to know! And thanks for the help! I don't mind throwing extra grain at it, but in the case of a Belgian Quad, I'm going to need the room for the standard grain bill and the mash /sparge water. Last one topped me out when it came out to 1.108. (With Candi Sugar)

    Consistently low efficiency

I usually stir during the initial add of the grains to the mash tun to break up the dough balls, and maybe once or twice throughout the mash process. I'll try to adjust the mill for the next round of brewing on an IPA. I'll shoot for the low end around .030". When I designed the manifold, I...

    Consistently low efficiency

I've been an avid homebrewer for over 8 years now and made the jump to all grain last year. I've upgraded most of my equipment and purchased a 40qt rectangular cooler with custom manifold, crankandstein 3E, pH meter, and 2 temperature probes. I've consistently only received around 58-62%...
