    Popular Beer Styles

So I was browsing brewmaster's recipe trying to think of something to brew and I noticed that IPA is probably the most popular style followed by American Pale Ale from their database of recipes. Thought it was kind of neat to see what homebrewers are making even though this may not be that large...

    Longan Honey

Anyone ever use this? Longan is a fruit found in Asia. Pretty tasty. My mom brought back about ~15lbs of this stuff from Taiwan. I'm excited to try it out and see how the mead will taste like. I'm hoping if it is good I can purchase longan honey in the U.S., but haven't seen any around.

    Car buying advice needed

I'm looking into getting a new car...specifically a midsize pick-up truck. I went to the dealership to just browse around today ended talking briefly to a salesman about prices. My problem is, I'm not sure what would be a good deal. I know that I should be able to get it below MSRP but I...

How many refrigerators do you have?

Seems like a few people on here brew A LOT and I'm curious on how people are able to maintain fermentation temps as well as storing the cold brews. So just wondering, How many refriderators do you guys have? If you only have 1 refrigerator, what do you use to maintain fermentation temps? I...

Has this been done before? I get the impression that it'll take more effort in getting proper fermentation. Any ideas on how the flavor profile will come out?

Take homebrew on commercial flight out of Country?

Is it possible to take a couple bottles of homebrews on a commercial flight out of the US. I want to pack 'em into my suitcase if it's possible to do. I know you can only care so much liquid carry-on so wasn't sure what the rule was if it's stored. I know you can't ship them USPS in the...

    BeerAdvocate Ratings.

When I look at the ratings on beeradvocate, I get the impression that the grades they give beers seem to be based on what type of beer style the beer is instead of if the beer matches the beer style it's suppose to be. Also I noticed that certain beer styles will have higher ratings than...

    Help me out w/ lagering

I started making a 5 gal batch of a german pilsner and I'm just wondering if I'm going about it the right way. Right now, the beer is fermenting at 51 degrees for about 3 weeks now. On the white labs website says my yeast (WLP800) should be around 50-55. So I thought I was doing it right...

    fermentation temperature

This is my first time brewing a lager. This question probably applies to both ale and lagers. How important is it to worry about fluctuation in temperature? Is a 5 degree change a big deal? I'm using white labs pilsner lager and it says optimum fermentation temp is 55 degree, but I notice...

    Gelatin and other clarifiers?

Getting back into home brewing again and one of my goals is to make the beer clearer. I am planning to make a pilsener and was thinking of using gelatin to help clear the beer, but for some reason I thought i read/heard somewhere that there is no reason to use gelatin in extract brewing that it...

How do you pour your beer?

Hey Guys, So I was reading BA's site on how to pour beer and it says to pour it at a 45 degree angle first and then at 1/2 point to turn it upright and pour the rest to get the foam. I noticed when I do this, i usually don't get as much foam. Now on some other sites, I've read that you pour...

What do you do while your beer is brewing?

Hey, Finished brewing my Blonde Ale last night and during the boil, I was sitting around thinking what ppl do for the 60 or so minutes that they have to wait. I was just staring at my brewpot the entire time being prepared for any boil overs. Ended up cracking open a beer and reading John...

    Stored hops still good?

So I still have 1 oz of Norther Brewer that I saved in the fridge by just sealing it up again in the plastic bag it came with (not air tight). It's been in the fridge for 2 months and I'm just wondering if it is still usable. I smelled it and it seemed fine. Would rather not waste it, but...
