    yeast harvest from my taps

Thanks for the encouragement. I couldn't find any mention, but it shouldn't be all that different than bottle dregs. Gelatin is a good suggestion but I'll try without first. Sent from my XT907 using Home Brew mobile app

    yeast harvest from my taps

So I relocated and tossed all my stored yeast. I need to restock and all I have is three kegged beers that are even better than I remembered after eight months. I am considering stepping up some starters with shots from my taps. I don't want to wait for the kegs to float. Anybody done it? I...

    Bulk hops order... opinions?

I use the jars with a little rubber tab that seals a pin hole under vacuum. The only problem is that occasionally the temp change or moisture from freeze thaw compromises the seal. I didn't notice a huge difference but it pisses me off, mainly because it only happens to my most prized aroma...

    Bulk hops order... opinions?

After a cross country move I'm back in the game six months later. Just ordered chinook, crystal, ahtanum, and simco-licous from yak-valleyhops. Time to hook up my kegs and taste the stored brews this weekend. Pils should be okay, pale ale I don't know. I finished pounders of cennt...

    Kolsch temperature setting.

I've had great beers with wyeast Kolsch II pitching at 58 and setting at 59 or 60F. I tape the temp probe on the bucket and put packing insulation over the top of it to try and get an honest read on the temp inside the bucket. I've gone with and without diactyl rests and haven't noticed a...

    IPA Recipe

Hey, I just brewed a rye IPA and hop bursted with 4 oz's of Columbus leaf hops late in the boil and a couple oz's of willamette pellets. The airlock smells awesome but I'm pissed that I didn't realize I would have almost 2 gallons of trub. So I have about 4 gallons in my bucket. Don't...

    IPA Recipe

It's your mouth, but I would drop the crystal and munich a bit and then drop the ibu's by about 50. But that's just me. You might really want a punch in the face, and I like those once in a while too. Consider a fwh with 1oz of the chinook and use the other at 60min... Also, be careful...

brewing my first Pilsner with first real water report

Can't really help you, but curious about the responses. I'm planning my first bo pils Sunday and the current plan is to just add 75% RO water. It takes my calcium way low but I think there will be plenty from the grist/mash. Love me some Frying Pan, btw. Headed that way late spring/early...

Worst Part When Bottling From a Keg

Very cool and a bit inspiring. I need to do a big boy brew to age for special occasion.

    Major Sanitation issue

What do you mean by sanitize the gas line? In my thinking I want the gas lines completely dry. I set up a new system and was spraying starsan in the gas lines as I was pressing them on the barbs. It made me nervous that the sanitizer/water in the barbs would eventually harbor bugs so I...

funky smelling first pours, wet dog.

The sanitizer question is interesting. I remember re-smelling the spray bottle thinking I caught a wiff of something off. I even opened it and smelled inside the bottle. I made fresh sanitizer in the keg but refilled the squirt bottle without washing it. It could be in the trigger mechanism...

funky smelling first pours, wet dog.

So I'm rockin kegs now, schwing...! But my first pours smelled like a wet dog. I was worried my whole keg was screwed so I was key word searching 'wet dog' but after a few pours and a week of aging it is all good. In fact, awesomely delicious. I'm thinking it was the yeast. I'm not one to...

    quick disco question

Right on, thanks for the tip!

    quick disco question

Okay, I spent a bunch of money to start kegging but I might have been penny wise and pound foolish. If I split my co2 line with T's for four kegs... will I have to have all four kegs hooked up to prevent leaks or are the quick disconnects air tight when not connected? I left the manifold...

    Does Galena taste like oxidation?

Give it some time before you drink it up. I use it for bittering and even a dry hop experiment which my buddies that like ipa's with a bite preferred. The key is to let it age 4-5 weeks. When it is green I describe it is as metallic and weird, but it comes around after it mellows...
