Counterflow vs plate Chiller - recommendations?

And first: I understand that a plate chiller IS a counter-flow chiller. For the purposes of my question, by counterflow chiller I mean the pipe inside of a pipe/hose type. Curious to know what everyone recommends given these two options. I just bought a 10 gallon pot in order to do full...

Honey Peach American Wheat - feedback please

Thank you all for the feedback. In weighing all of the responses, I have decided to leave the honey out for now. It's going to help me in the long run to do a batch without first, so I can better understand the impact of doing a batch with honey later on. I'll follow up after its done.

Honey Peach American Wheat - feedback please

Thanks. Just figured the peach would be the showcase, not the esters from yeast, so i will probably stick with california ale yeast. i made the mistake of throwing too many unknowns in my last beer (a belgian IPA) and the flavor has so much going on - and not in a good way - that i don't know...

Honey Peach American Wheat - feedback please

Hi! We can call this a recipe Sanity check. Been a while since brewing, been even longer since doing a wheat beer..... (longer, as in 'never'). 5lbs Wheat DME (which I believe is 65 wheat 35 pale malt). Aiming for bout 15 IBUs from a single hop addition (undecided neutral hop variety)...

Thanks for the explanation, and thanks to all that replied. That is all very good to know.

    IPA Recipe, sanity check

Yooper just blew my mind. i was of an opinion supported by ONG. For ease of the following example, i will cast aside the difference in utilization caused by a denser boil. i thought (for lack of a better expression) that hop bitterness would be doubled (concentrated) based on half the...

    IPA Recipe, sanity check

The last time i brewed an IPA, I was IBU gun-shy. Any feedback on this sucker would be appreciated! Boil Gravity of 3.75 gallons Batch Size of 5.5 gallons (given the hops, I suspect about 4.8 - 5 gallon actual yeild at bottling) 8.25 lbs of Briess Golden light DME 10 oz Crystal 40 4 oz...

    S airlock with no cap

As usual, something goes missing since the last brew day. I realized I have no cap for my s shaped airlock. I would think this would not really be an issue, but anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks for your input. Already have the SA-5 on hand. I will try the SA-4 on a future batch.

Brown Ale Recipe, hoping for feedback...

thanks. Brewing today, we shall see what happens! Any feedback on the dextrin powder? I'm not sure I need it; but that being said, I have read it is useful for extract based brews.

Brown Ale Recipe, hoping for feedback...

Haven't made many successful dark beers, but I have learned a lot since my last attempt (2 years back). Looking for any feedback, from 'WTF?' to 'Looks Delicious', and anything in between. Thanks! Partial Mash: 2 lbs British 2 row 12 oz Crystal 60 5oz Pale Chocolate Malt 4oz Munich Malt...

    wort watter level

Based on the original post, i can only assume by the phrase 'starting on wort' that the actual batches were the same size, but the boil volume (or resulting wort) was different prior to adding water to reach that batch size. Assuming this is right, here is how 'boil volume' can affect your...

Hop suggestions for this malt bill

Thanks. So I am not married to the Idea of 'going for a certain style' per se. Based on the ranges by style, for OG, SRM, IBU, ABV and FG, I guess my numbers fit an IPA....so i called it that in my post. that being said, I'd rather just brew something I think would taste good. So i will go...
