Any word on what you ended up doing and how it turned out?
I'm planning on adding coconut and rum to a porter I started today. I have 2 lbs of coconut I plan on toasting and adding to the secondary along with the rum and maybe the oak cubes. I was thinking 16oz of rum on the oak cubes for 2...
So I'm going to attempt a coconut porter. For those of you who have added coconut to your brews, how long does the coconut flavor last. I will likely have to let this brew sit in a keg for about 8 months. Not because I want to, but because I will be away for the summer and moving during the...
Like said above, only you can know if it's worth it. Personally, I couldn't go back now that I keg. Bottling day turned into kegging half hour and I love being able to grab a taste instead of having to open a whole bottle.
Don't know about Farmington Hills but if you're going "down" to there you might be passing by Frankenmuth. There's a few brewpubs there. Can't say I remember having any particularly stand out beers there, but the food was good and the town is very nice.
Happens.
Open a few, from different spots in your bottling order if you can, and see if they explode at you when you open'em. If none of the ones you open have a problem, or if they're undercarbed, it could just be those 5. If they're all overcarbed, check for infection and if there isn't one...
The plastic would let oxygen in which is a definite no no, especially if you're trying to let it sit for a while. I'm not sure what benefits you're expecting out of a soda bottle that you wouldn't get out of aging in the glass bottles you're bottling in.
I also feel obligated to suggest that...
I tapped mine in December and absolutely love this beer. I soaked the oak cubes in a measuring cup so it was an easy pour into the better bottle, then racked off of'em at whatever the prescribed time was (sorry nowhere near my notes right now). I added a little more maker's than the high end...
Bass, I'm sorry to hear that. You could always add some coconut rum while you're going from bottle to glass to get some more coconut flavor. And, with enough rum, you won't even notice the metallic taste.
Emjay, that just sounds incredible.
