Last year I let my hops go. Yesterday I cleaned up the mess. I had 3 to 5 ft vines running through the weeds and up the barn side. I cleaned out the weeds and had to cut back the vines to a 1 to 1 1/2 ft. Will they grow back after such a agressive trim? M&M

How old are the plants? Honestly they are probably fine, the extra growth may have helped them build up nutrient reserves in the rhizome.

Beat 'em up a little more. That first thrashing only served to piss them off so they'll grow back with a vengeance. They'll be fine but just don't turn your back on them for more than a week. Happy Growing!

From my experience a bine that is cut or broken will either die completely or split off and grow two shoots, one off each side of the cut. You might get to see both.
