My LHBS gave me this recipe for a bass clone:
1lb Crystal grains
2qts Pale Liquid Malt
.5lb brown sugar
1.5oz Fuggles (whole flower) bittering
.5oz Kent (pellet)
1tsp Irish Moss
1 pack of Nottingham Ale Yeast

It has been in the bottle now for 5 weeks. I has nice color and carbonation but it has an off odor when I put my nose in the glass. As well, there is a very sweet finish to it that turns me off. Could this sweetness be because of the sugary adjunct I used, and the .5lb of dark brown sugar?

You could be getting the dreaded LME twang. Next time try using dry extract. I could be wrong but that is what it sounds like to me.

My guess is that it did not ferment out all the way. It is one of the challenges with the homebrewer especially when beginning the hobby. I don't associate the twang with a sweetnesss.
