F*** THIS WIND!!! I'm never going to get the roof done at this rate! No way to wrestle tar paper onto the damn thing today.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

You don't need tar paper. The thinking was that if there is a leak in the shingles the tar paper would slow things down until you can fix it. The problem is that you don't know you have a leak until there is damage anyway.

Seriously, it was like sustained 30mph winds in the middle part of NM. I feel your pain..... Need to trim some of my trees before spring really kicks in.

I built a shed in the backyard, but it is for Motorcycles, and the construction of brew equipment. It went like this:

I wish I could build another just for beer. Thanks to my Dad (he's a carpenter) we were able to build this on about a dozen saturdays.

That's awesome! My old man build himself a garage (probably about 3x the size of your shed) a few years back, I'd love for him to help me replace my crappy garage.

Nice "shed"!

Good luck on your roof!

I'm eying a spot in my backyard that is just the right size for a structure like that. Now just to work on SWMBO... Does it help my argument if I slowly migrate all my equipment into areas that she uses every day? I bet I could do it over the course of a few months, so she thinks that I'm just running out of space in the garage. :D

This is key I think! :D This is what got me a suggested brew space as soon as money allows. She got sick of bottles sitting on the counter, my carboy sitting beside the sink soaking after fermentation and my autosiphon taking up sink.

Carefull fellows, it's a fine line between "Time to build a shed and Time to throw some of this junk out" or the dreaded "When are you going to clean out the garage so we can get a car in it"

They are sneaky that way, always trying to hold a man down. JK

Great job Yuri.

This probably goes against building codes, but if you wanted a cheap plumbing solution, you could install a garden hose fitting on the outside of the shed as a 'water in' connection and then have another garden hose fitting and hose inside the shed. When you want to brew, hook up a hose from the house to the shed. Just a thought.

Also, it would be really cool to a waterproof/tiled floor with a drain that empties outside the shed. That would make cleanup a breeze.

So where will I get my project building fix for the next couple weeks? SWMBO is not going to like this when i come home with mics building supplies. Especially when it has nothing to do the house. Maybe it's finally time to put together my EHLT I've been pretending to think about building.

I'm back from my short trip, and the exterior is nearly complete! All it needs now is some touch up paint, a porch light, and an electrical service box. I should be able to start on the interior soon!

While I was gone, I had some time to ponder the rig that will occupy the hut. I think I'm going all electric (electric boiler/steam injection + electric boil kettle). It's cheap, simple, and easily controlled using the PWM feature on my favorite microcontroller.

I guess I should take care of the yard, sometime, too...

Excited to see what get's done with the inside. Been anxiously waiting for Ed to get to that part as well. Don't know how you guys have time for these projects. Seems like I'm swamped with boring necessary repairs and seasonal maintenance.

Yuri my friend you are a rockstar!! But why in the world would you want to tile the interior? If the slab is in good shape why not just clean it up and put a coat of garage epoxy down? It would save you a hundred bucks and a day or two (or week in my case) of sore knees and back!!

I feel like a dirty old man looking at all this brew porn considering I haven't brewed my first batch yet. I'm ordering my starter kit in a couple weeks so I can start to get the feel as I build my ultimate brew rig. Thanks to everyone on here for helping me find a home for every extra penny for the next decade!!

Brew On:rockin:

This weekend marked the start of wiring and drywall. I'm doing the entire ceiling first so that I can somewhat effectively run the air conditioner while I finish the rest. I'm using garden tools to spread bales of blow-in insulation across the ceiling as I go (crude, but effective). The gray wires hanging on either side of the light boxes are in-wall speaker wires. The hole in the back is for attic access. There isn't much space up there, but I figure it might be nice to have access in case I get some wild idea about adding more wiring later.

I just might have a place to brew by mid-summer!

BM, you got it. I had a friend help with some of the heavy lifting on the exterior, but I'll likely finish the interior alone. I'm tacking a temporary 2x4 "shelf" to the header to hold one end of the drywall sheet, and the T-pole holds the rest while I get some screws started. It's worked really well thus far, and I only have half sheets left to hang. I don't mind simply installing drywall. I hate all the tedious taping, mudding, sanding, lather, rinse, repeat...

Yeah...that is the worst part.

Although...to this day when I get a whif of a freshly opened tub of drywall mud...it brings back vivid memories of every basement I've ever finished...as well as a few garage drywall projects done out of boredom.

Looks good Yuri.

Is that a drywall T-Pole there? For installing ceiling drywall on your own. Ah what memories.

Man I hate installing drywall.

Last time I did it, I rented out a drywall hanger from the local rental place. It made it a hell of a lot easier, especially solo. Load, Crank, Set, and nail.

I also hate taping, I always sub contract that out.

Place looks great Yuri!

Nice Job Yuri... I hate installing Drywall period... Give me gold ol fashion OSB or ply anyday...

I just got done building an eggress into my brew room and a new deck/sunroom on my brother's house. Can't wait to see the final product when its done!

Good Luck!
