It's about 5 months behind the timeline I envisioned, but I FINALLY got started on the brew hut! The walls are framed. Sheathing and rafters are on tomorrow's schedule.

I plan on running electricity to it, insulating it well, and drywalling/tiling the interior. I have a decent window A/C to cool it. Plumbing is likely beyond my budget. It's not quite Ed's palace, but it's mine, and I can't wait to finish it!

I envy you guys... I live in a tiny apartment.

Plumbing is likely beyond my budget.

Why do you need plumbing? It looks like you could just drag a garden hose over there. Just tap into your perimeter drain and you are set.

Today's progress:

The door is partially blocked to keep the dog out. With the sinus infection/cold that I have, building trusses today turned out to be a bit over-ambitious. There's always next weekend...

With any luck, the inaugural brew will be sometime this summer.

Make sure to put a good lock on the door. The last thing you want is the neighbourhood delinquents to get wind of a bunch of beer locked up in a lonely shed in your backyard. Maybe a beer alarm...

Yeah, I've got this worry about my keezer. It is in a laundry room which is attached to the house but has its own door/window. I can lock the door but I drink way too much beer to constantly take my keys out every time I want a pint. My worst nightmare is to go out and see six shanks staring at me, mouths agape over a 30 gallon beer puddle. Faucets are pretty easy to take off once you know.

I'm not worried about security. We live in a pretty quiet neighborhood, the hut is inside a locked privacy fence, and I already have a deadbolt set for the door.

Sweet. Awesome work. Someday I will have a stand-alone brew hut or brew room in the main house. Someday.......

The slab was pre-existing. The previous owner poured it and never built anything on it.

Talk about a score!!!
The slab was pre-existing? I know you knew exactly what you were gonna put there when you bought the place......:rockin:

I remember when Yuri bought the place. WE all knew what he was doing with it!

Looks great, Yuri (like there would be any doubt)

Great work Yari !
I , in no way want to hijack this or any thread, but just finished up a project like this , it was really helpful to use the space to it's fullest potential, when I first started I thought I had enormous amounts of room, but a friend really helped me layout the design to maximize every square foot, I am now glad he did. take the time to draw, measure, act out ,plan for future improvements/upgrades, and then repeat, you will be amazed how quickly you can fill up your shed. Take lots of pictures ! ask any questions .

Looking good. I like the insulated sidewalls, good planing.

Must be nice to only have to pour a slab, around here 4 foot frost walls are the minimum.

I'm planning on building a 24 X 24 garage this summer and I can't figure out a reason to not make it a 'post and beam' construction. I have my nephew coming over on Saturday to help cut down the last few trees that are in the way. If I do opt for the P & B I'll be calling out to all my local HBT bro's for assistance on barn raising day. I figure I'll have to have some beer and BBQ around somewhere to pay you guys off.

Add me to the subscribed list..... I'm interested to see this one go - I know Yuri will probably throw in a few unique & inventive twists....

I'll come down to help with that. I've seen barn raisings on This Old House and such, it's pretty damn cool. They're actually classes out here that give you hands-on experience with P&B construction, I've thought it would be fun for my brother and my old man to do that together.

If you need planning help shout away, I built commercial column frame (pole barn) buildings for 8 years in a previous life.

:off: Sorry Yuri.

That looks awesome! I'm hoping to do a storage area/brew hut this summer too, I am too lazy to throw down a concrete base, so you lucked out there... Plan is to run power, and "maybe" water, but not sure on water yet, I think that would be pretty expensive... I look forward to updates on this AND EdWorts, awesome stuff!

Yuri - Great to see it's started, please keep us up to date with all the details and lots of pictures, not to mention the thousand and one gadgets your going to come up with.
Thanks for sharing.

looks awsome just wish my backyard was big enough to build one myself. (i live in a patio home)
