As we all know, specific yeasts provide different charachteristics to our beer, but has anyone tried using multiple yeasts or different strains to achieve charachteristics of these yeasts combined or is that simple idiocy and overthinking because of the the variety of yeasts on the market that can provide the profiles a brewer is looking for?

It's not that uncommon to mix multiple strains of yeast. I have seen quite a few wheat beer recipes around that use two different strains.
