I just started my first batch (Cooper's Dark Ale), and added the yeast to 2 litres of water that had just been boiled, instead of adding cold water first. The yeast was in there for a few minutes before I added cold water.
Has the yeast definitely died, or is there a chance all/some survived? If all of it died, can I just add more yeast?

Had it been boiled and cooled? Or did you add yeast to near-boiling water?

If the water was close to boiling temp, the yeast are dead.

think about it. yeast are alive just like you. would you like to be dumped in near boiling water? only dry yeast needs to be rehydrated like you where trying to do. next time cool the water to around 90F or so. also you only need a cup or two of water not 2 liters.
