I am making my first yeast starter, in a flask on the stove, one liter water, 1 cup DME. Boil for 15 minutes, cool, pitch yeast into starter.

i plan on pitching the entire thing into a 5 gallon batch of wort on Sunday. Does it matter that I will be pitching the hot break from the starter into the wort?

Nope! The break material will be minimal, and it should settle into the trub layer with little to no noticeable effect. RDWHAHB!

Sounds like good advice!:mug:

Thanks.

Another question, <I'm not worried, I am just curious, is there supposed to be a large krausen in the flask? I have plenty of yeast activity, and a light foam on surface, but no big krausen.

Sometimes starters go nuts with plenty of krausen, other times they just do what you describe. As long as there is activity, your starter is probably effective.
