I noticed the big difference in price between Danstar Nottingham dry yeast and whites Cali. Ale yeast. Does it really make that big of a difference? Should I go with the more expensive Whites Cali. Ale Yeast?

when brewing to style than yes the yeast has quite a bit to do with the flavor of your beer.

With your first few batches I would stick with the almost fool proof dry yeasts, until you are ready for a whole new process to add to your brewing.

Brewing can be as easy or as hard as you make it, my advice , work at making simple beers while learning to how to brew, then work about making the unique brews after you have a firm grasp on the processes involved in making beer

california ale yeast is much cleaner. Nottingham is an english ale yeast which will give you more esters. Both are excellent. I think Sierra Nevada uses cal wlp001 as their house yeast. I keep nottingham around just incase and use it for everything from ciders to a backup yeast for beers which the starter fails on.
